5.12.2008 - MACHO, Macho Men!

MACHO UNO sired two new stakes winners April 26th, the fifth and sixth stakes horses from his freshman crop.

HARLEM ROCKER, a member of the Adena Racing Venture II, now has three wins in three starts and earnings of $139,500 for trainer Todd Pletcher. Daily Racing Form's Mike Watchmaker noted: "With the way Harlem Rocker inhaled the very capable J Be K, he could have a significant impact in the 3-year-old male division in the not-too-distant future." Harlem Rocker is being pointed toward the Classic Queen's Plate in June. Click here for full story. MACHO UNO sired the session topper opening day of the OBS April Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Hip 273, a colt out of Enterprizing Cat, sold for $250,000 to Klaravich Stable. Earlier in the month at the Keeneland April Sale, Hip 157, a colt out of Royal Confection, sold for $210,000 to Malih Albasti.

Two sons of Macho Uno are among the favorites for the Queen's Plate. Along with Harlem Rocker, COOL GATOR, a Graded stakes colt from the first crop by MACHO UNO, has been installed winter book favorite for the Plate. Woodbine handicapper Jennifer Morrison pegged Cool Gator at 4-1 for the June 22nd Classic. The chestnut is owned by Garland Williamson and trained by Danny Vella, who gave the early conditioning to Champion Macho Uno.

MACHO UNO sired his 19th winner on March 1st, 3-length maiden special debut winner UNO RED BIRD. On February 28th, MACHO AGAIN won a $40,500 Fair Grounds allowance as the even money favorite.

MACHO UNO's second crop of two-year-olds are averaging $131,667 at the 2008 Sales. He has had three in the ring and three sold this year, including a $150,000 filly at FT Calder and a $150,000 colt at OBS February.

On January 5th MACHO UNO sired his 17th winner, debut starter UNO MAS PROMESA. This filly blew the break in a maiden special event over 5 1/2 furlongs, but shot past 12 rivals to win going away by 3 3/4 lengths.

MACHO UNO finished 2007 as America's #5 Freshman Sire, with 16 winners, four stakes horses, and $1,146,037. Nearly half of his progeny earnings came on Polytrack.

PURSUE A DREAM became the fourth stakes horse from the first crop of MACHO UNO when he ran a strong second in the Centennial S. on December 1st.

MACHO UNO debuted a star on November 17, when NATIONAL PRIDE won his first career start at Aqueduct in a very quick 1:09 1/5. This was the 16th first crop winner for champion Macho Uno, who is America's #4 Freshman Sire.

Stakes winner SLY BUTTERFLY, in foal to MACHO UNO, topped the sixth session of the Keeneland November Sale, selling for $410,000. Consigned by Hidden Brook, agent for Adena Springs, she was purchased by Stonerside Stable. Click here for details. The same day, MACHO UNO also had another repeat winner, when Pursue a Dream won a $35,000 allowance for his second win in four starts.

Standing in Kentucky for 2008, MACHO UNO is America's #5 Freshman Sire, with 15 winners and progeny earnings in excess of $1,000,000. On November 9 he sired two new winners coast coast to coast--CHINA UNO at Hollywood and MACHO KID at Calder.

On November 4, his Graded stakes placed son Cool Gator ran second in the $250,000 Coronation Futurity, and his 13th winner, Adena Two-Year-Old graduate SHAMATEUR, broke his miaden first time out in Italy.

MACHO UNO sired his 12th two-year-old winner on October 28, when $150,000 auction two-year-old MACHO AGAIN romped by 5 1/2 lengths going seven furlongs at Churchill. The gray colt is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and trained by Dallas Stewart.

Two days after siring his first Grade I winner, MACHO UNO just missed siring his third $100,000 stakes winner by a short head. Making his third career start, COOL GATOR battled the entire last furlong in the $250,000 Grey S.-G3 at Woodbine, before succombing by a diminishing head. A jump past the wire he was in front.

On October 6, undefeated WICKED STYLE was sensational start to finish winning the $500,000 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland. Breaking from the 12 hole, far outside his rivals, WICKED STYLE went right to the lead and increased his advantage, winning by 3 1/2 lengths at the wire. The handsome chestnut from the first crop by Macho Uno heads next to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, a race his sire won en route to the two-year-old championship.

On September 29, MACHO UNO sired his ninth first-crop winner, wire-to-wire victress and Adena Springs Two-Year-Old Sale graduate HEARTLAND SONG. The bay filly was making her second career start.

September 22-23 MACHO UNO sired his seventh and eighth winners, Macho Tough in the U.S. and Cosmo Gyro in Japan. MACHO UNO is Florida's Leading Freshman Sire, #5 nationwide, with more than $515,000 in progeny earnings.

At Keeneland September, MACHO UNO sired six-figure yearlings four days in a row, including the third highest-priced yearling Sept. 17, when Hip 2409 sold to Zayat Stables for $280,000. The colt out of Song of Royalty was bred by Donald Ming, and sold in the Denali Stud consignment. The other six-figure yearlings are Hip 3557 ($150,000 to Scott & Evan Dilworth), Hip 3101 ($120,000 to Jim Barry), Hip 2686 ($100,000 to M/M J.S. Moss).

5.12.2008 - EL Career SW #65!

EL PRADO sired the 65th stakes winner of his storied career, when SPANISH MOON won the Listed Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot on May 10th. The homebred for Juddmonte Farms is a full brother to G2 winner Spanish Sun.

EL PRADO sired his seventh millionaire and 124th career stakes horse on May 3rd. FORT PRADO achieved millionaire status in the James B. Tafel S. The 11-time stakes winner races for Team Block. New stakes horse UFFIZI was a close third in the Inglewood H.-G3, and brings his career earnings to $227,249. He is the ninth stakes horse of 2008 for EL PRADO.

DREAMING OF LIZ became EL PRADO's eighth 2008 stakes horse on May 2nd, with a wire-to-wire victory in the Double Delta Stakes. The 3-year-old filly was also a Graded stakes winner at two.

On April 19th, EL PRADO sired his 123rd career stakes performer, when Come Fly Away ran a close third in the Geisha Stakes. She is the seventh 2008 stakes horse for El Prado.

April 12th, multiple Graded stakes winner FORT PRADO inched closer to millionaire status, running a game third in the Shakertown S.-G3 at Keeneland. The gray has now earned $988,051.

On March 25th, EL PRADO sired his 122nd career stakes horse, when GREAT HAWK ran a close third in the Winter Derby-G3 at Lingfield, England. GREAT HAWK was bred by Clover IV, and sold for $400,000 as a Keeneland yearling.

On March 6, Multiple Graded stakes winner LORD ADMIRAL overpowered a fine international field in the $250,000 Jebel Hatta-G2 in Dubai. The son of EL PRADO defeated 15 rivals from seven countries en route to victory in the 9-furlong prep for $5-million Dubai Golden Shaheen-G1 on Dubai World Cup Day. He has now earned more than $860,000 for owner Vincent O'Brien.

Also March 6th, Triple Crown contender ELYSIUM FIELDS worked four furlongs in :49 at Gulfstream. Trainer Barclay Tagg noted "He worked fine. It was just a maintenance work. We had to do it on a sealed track because there was some rain." Elysium Fields is entered next in the Grade I Florida Derby March 29.

EL PRADO sired the 64th stakes winner of his distinguished career when Henrietta Alexander's LA PEROUSE won the Likely Exchange Stakes on February 9th. This was EL PRADO's third stakes winner in 14 days. On Februrary 24th, 3-year-old ELYSIUM FIELDS ran a strong second in the $350,000 Fountain of Youth S.-G2, becoming the 121st career stakes horse for EL PRADO. An impressive maiden victor in his prior start, ELYSIUM FIELDS was gaining ground at the finish, and looked like he would appreciate addtional furlongs.

International Group stakes winner LORD ADMIRAL became EL PRADO's second Graded winner in five days with his 3 3/4-length victory in the Al Rashidiya-G3 in Dubai. A stakes performer in the U.S., Ireland and UAE, LORD ADMIRAL has earnings of $701,536. EL PRADO is the first sire with more than one Graded stakes winner in 2008.

BUFFALO MAN won his fourth career stakes January 27th with a game and tenacious victory in the Appleton H.-G3 at Gulfstream. This was the first Graded victory and first stakes win on turf for the 2006 Adena Springs Two-Year-Old Sale graduate. EL PRADO's daughter ASI SIEMPRE sold for $3,000,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Mixed Sale. The Grade I winner of nearly $1,000,000 was purchased by John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed, from the consignment of Bluewater Sales, agent. Ferguson said: "She won a Grade I, she's by El Prado, she's fast and sound and looks like a real athlete." Also on Sunday, EL PRADO's son LORD ADMIRAL won his third stakes, the Knockaire S. in Ireland under 133 lbs.

5.5.2008 - Hot SOUP! 4 Stakes Horses Past 8 Weeks

ALPHABET SOUP sired his fourth stakes horse of 2008 on May 4th, when 3-year-old BEARS ARTISTE placed in the Mount Royal H. This filly was a stakes winner at two, and now has career earnings of $93,111.

ALPHABET SOUP sired three new stakes horses in 5 1/2 weeks this year. On April 12, MOUJANE ran third in the Santa Lucia Handicap at Santa Anita; March 30th, SOUPY was runner-up in the March Madness H. at Santa Anita; and February 28, SERENITY LAKE placed in the Benanken S. at Fair Grounds.

In 2007, M B SEA became the third stakes winner in four days by ALPHABET SOUP when he won the Fall Stakes. The Graded stakes winner has now earned $744,471.

On Sept. 29, ALPHABET SOUP sired two new two-year-old stakes winners, his 31st and 32nd career stakes winners. PICASO, whose dam sold at the Adena Broodmare Sale, won the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile Stakes at six furlongs, while BEARS ARTISTE won the Sturgeon River S. at a mile. Also Sept. 29, multiple stakes winner ZEE OH SIX attempted to win the Oklahoma Classics Classic for the fourth straight year, but ran third after leading for three quarters.

ALPHABET SOUP sired two stakes fillies September 2nd, two-year-old BEARS ARTISTE, 2nd in the Freedom of the City S. at Northlands Park, and SILVER SWALLOW, 3rd in the $140,650 Torrey Pines S. at Del Mar.

On August 24, Adena Springs bred Hip 971 sold for $185,000, best price of the day and third best of all colts for the OBS August yearling sale. Purchased by Manor Farm from the Summerfield consignment, the gray colt is out of B Gone Blues (Gone West), a daughter of GSW/G1SP Beal Street Blues.

August 4, Graded stakes winner M B SEA ($699,771) won the $125,000 West Virginia Governor's S. by a resounding 7 1/4 lengths. His dam sold at the annual Adena Springs Broodmare Sale. The same day, 2-year-old Bears Artiste ran second in the Bird of Pay S, in Canada, becoming the sixth 2007 stakes horse for ALPHABET SOUP.

July 21, Graded stakes winner WATCHEM SMOKEY ($443,410) became the fifth stakes horse of 2007 for ALPHABET SOUP, when second in the Oak Hall S.

July 15th, SILVER WHISTLE ($406,652) ran 3rd in the Bowling Green S.-G2 at Belmont.

June 10, SILVER SWALLOW ran second in the Hollywood Oaks-G2. Earlier this year, she ran second to Belmont S.-G1 winner RAGS TO RICHES in the $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks-G1. The gray daughter of ALPHABET SOUP has earned $146,600 this year.

MILWAUKEE BREW is America's leading second crop sire of 2008 stakes winners. DICEY D J became her sire's third stakes winner of the year, with a three-length victory in the Hookedonthefeelin S. on Derby Day. MILWAUKEE BREW is also America's #1 2nd crop sire of 2008 winners, with 19.

Adena Springs bred GINGER BREW won the $200,000 Calder Oaks April 26th, becoming the fifth stakes horse from the first crop by MILWAUKEE BREW. She has three wins and two seconds in five starts, for earnings of $199,566. Also April 26, BULLET BREW charged on the outside to just miss in the Grand Prairie Turf Challenge S. Both runners are graduates of the Adena Springs Two-Year-Olds Sale.

MILWAUKEE BREW is America's #2 second crop sire of 2008 winners. As of April 26th, the multi-millionaire has sired 17 winners this year, 27 total from his first crop. His progeny have won from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles, and have an average winning distance of 6.66 furlongs.

MILWAUKEE BREW's daughter SALOMEA was featured on the front page of The Daily Racing Form March 2nd. In a story headlined "Cross plans big things for Salomea," the Form notes that Kentucky Derby winning trainer David Cross is aiming the stakes filly for the Classic $500,000 Woodbine Oaks June 8th. "She's got a lot of ability," said the trainer, who won the Kentucky Derby with Sunny's Halo in 1983. "So I brought her down here to Oaklawn to get her ready, because it can be hard to get a horse ready up there because of the weather." SALOMEA was purchased for $30,000 at the 2007 Adena Springs Two-Year-Olds Sale. She has two wins and earnings of $88,172 for owner Lynne Hindmarsh.

MILWAUKEE BREW sired his 24th winner on March 2, maiden special victress MUSICAL BREW. Also March 2nd, BREWTIFUL GIRL, who was his first two-year-old starter last year, won at Aqueduct by six lengths. MILWAUKEE BREW is Florida's Leading 2nd Crop Sire of winners.

On February 25th he sired the 23rd winner from his first crop, Adena Springs bred One Quick Brew. MILWAUKEE BREW has winners on dirt, turf and Polytrack, with an average winning distance of 6 1/2 furlongs.

From January 25th through 31st, MILWAUKEE BREW sired three new winners and a stakes horse.

On January 29th, One Quick Brew became his sire's third stakes performer running third in the Invitational H. at Portland Meadows. January 31st, HOMEMADE BREW broke her maiden at Santa Anita in 1:08 3/5 while MILWAUKEE HIGH won going a mile at Delta Downs. January 25th, BULLET BREW won a maiden special weight at a mile by 5 1/2 lengths.

MILWAUKEE BREW is Florida's second leading sophomore sire of winners, with 19 first-crop winners and 12 more placed. He has sired two other stakes horses, Salomea and Milwaukee Fun. He is Florida's #3 second crop sire by progeny earnings.

MILWAUKEE BREW's runners have won from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, on dirt and on Polytrack. They have an average winning distance of 6.25 furlongs. With two Grade I wins at 1 1/4 miles and unraced himself at two, MILWAUKEE BREW can be expected to perform even better as his runners get older.

DICEY D J "showed admirable determination" winning a $52,000 maiden special weight in her career debut at Belmont, reports Thoroughbred Daily News. The $70,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling was bred in Maryland by Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGinnes, and races for Bad Boys Stable and trainer Linda Rice.

BREWTIFUL GIRL, the first starter by MILWAUKEE BREW, won a $42,460 maiden special weight at Delaware Park May 27th. The even-money choice contested the early fractions before taking over to win the 4 1/2-furlong by 1 1/2 lengths. The Florida-bred has now earned $33,800 for owner Sheratoga Stables.

At OBS April 24, a first-crop colt by Milwaukee Brew was one of the highest priced lots, selling for $115,000. Hip 182, out of Bowl of Cherrie's, was consigned by Eisaman Equine and purchased by Kaaren Biggs.
