City Wolf is by Storm Cat’s best son, three-time champion sire Giant’s Causeway, out of Broodmare of the Year Baby Zip, also dam of the prolific stallions Ghostzapper and City Zip.

Mares from the Fappiano/Unbridled line should be strongly considered for City Wolf. G1W Carpe Diem is among Giant’s Causeway’s three stakes winners out of a daughter of Unbridled’s Song (by Unbridled). Giant’s Causeway’s son Shamardal has also sired a pair of Group 2 winners out Unbridled’s Song daughters. Overall Giant’s Causeway and his sons have combined to sire nearly 30 stakes winners, 16 graded winners and six G1 winners out of mares by Fappiano-line stallions. Among the other damsires represented: Cryptoclearance, his sons Victory Gallop & Ride the Rails (sire of Candy Ride), Roy, Rubiano, Defensive Play, Grindstone and Quiet American.

Unbridled and Rubiano are by Fappiano with second dams by In Reality, City Wolf’s maternal grandsire. Reinforcing In Reality should prove beneficial for City Wolf just as it has been for both Ghostzapper and City Zip. Ghostzapper’s Grade 1 winners Stately Victor and Contested carry a double of In Reality and they are among the 28 total Grade 1 winners inbred/line-bred to that stallion.

Stately Victor’s second dam is by Valid Appeal, also the second damsire of Ghostzapper’s G2W Hear the Ghost. Del Mar Oaks (G1) winner Personal Diary is by City Zip and is among the three Grade 1 winners and the 13 overall stakes winner inbred to Relaunch (within five generations) along with Ghostzapper's G1W/Champion Shaman Ghost. City Zip is the sire of an additional Grade 1 winner out of a mare returning In Reality (Bustin Stones out of a granddaughter of Crafty Prospector).

Along with Fappiano, other Mr. Prospector-line influences recommended for City Wolf include Seeking the Gold, Gone West, Kingmambo and Carson City.

Giant’s Causeway has sired a quartet of North American Grade 1 winners (and seven total stakes winners) out of mares by Seeking The Gold. Two of his sons have also sired stakes winners on this cross.

Giant’s Causeway over Gone West has yielded at least 11 stakes winners, including two each out mares by Elusive Quality, Grand Slam and Mr. Greeley.

Giant’s Causeway and two of his sons have combined to sire at least 14 stakes winners out of daughters and granddaughters of Kingmambo. Four are winners at the G1 level.

Carson City-line mares are interesting for City Wolf as Carson City is the sire of his successful brother City Zip. Giant’s Causeway has sired at least three stakes winners out of daughters of Carson City including G3W Corporate Jungle. In addition, Carson City is out of a mare by Blushing Groom, also the maternal grandsire of Giant’s Causeway. Giant’s Causeway and sons have sired over 40 stakes winners out of mares that return Blushing Groom, and over half of those are group/graded victors.

Giant’s Causeway and his sons have also had very good success with the Danzig broodmare line. The overall cross has produced nearly 50 stakes winners, 12 of those winners at the highest level. Danehill, Langfuhr, Anabaa and Green Desert are among the damsires represented in this sample. Mares by the Langfuhr son Lawyer Ron as well as those by War Front, Exchange Rate, Hard Spun and War Chant can also be considered for City Wolf.
