Two Starters, Two Winners for Capo Bastone

07.07.2018 -

When Starship Nala broke from the rail in a 5-furlong Maiden Special on Saturday at Gulfstream Park she became Capo Bastone's second starter. Just under one minute later she became her sire's second winner.

Racing in the colors of Starship Stables, the bay filly rated in sixth in the early going under Miquel Vasquez. After ranging up to third at the head of the lane she maintained that momentum, surging to the front and crossing the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front of the second-time starter Gerrys Big Win. The final time was :59.29.

Starship Nala was bred in Florida by William P. Sorren out of the Forest Wildcat daughter Perfectly Wild. She entered her debut off a spirited series of works at Gulfstream for trainer Steven Dwoskin.

Starship Nala joins the impressive Keeneland debut winner Hargus as early winners by Capo Bastone, winner of the 2013 King's Bishop S. (G1).
