Sweater Weather Over $500,000 with Algoma Stakes Victory

Frank Di Giulio Jr.’s Sweater Weather used an explosive late kick to successfully defend her title in the $125,000 OLG/OR Algoma Stakes, presented by Adena Springs Canada, on an action-packed Wednesday night at Woodbine Racetrack.

In the evening’s third Canadian Millions sales stakes for fillies & mares three years old and up, Sweater Weather and jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva followed in seventh-place before picking off horses around the final turn and surging to victory by two and a half lengths. The final time was 1:45.73 over 1-1/16 miles on the Tapeta track. 

The victory was the blacktype score for the six-year-old daughter of Milwaukee Brew and it put her over the half-million dollar mark in earnings. Her bankroll now stands at $536,431 making her the fourth-highest earner by Milwaukee Brew after the Woodbine Oaks heroines Milwaukee Appeal ($1,198,674) and Ginger Brew ($970,311) and the active multiple graded winner Flipcup ($636,382) 

Sweater Weather was bred in Ontario by Osprey Stable was purchase by trainer Robert Tiller for Di Giulio for $39,000 at the 2012 CTHS September yearling sale.

One race later on the Canadian Millions card, the Silent Name filly Summer Sunday remained unbeaten with a dominant score in the $200,000 Muskoka Stakes.
