Mucho Macho Man Yearling is Colt Topper at Barretts August

08.30.2017 -

Hip #67, a colt from the first crop by Breeders' Cup Classic champion Mucho Macho Man, brought $120,000 at Tuesday's Barretts August sale. That price tag made him the highest-selling colt at California's premier yearling auction.

Consigned by McCarthy Thoroughbreds, the flashy chestnut is out of the City Zip dam Longing and hails from the family of champion multi-millionaire Wando. Like his sire, the colt has good size and scope and is typical of what breeders are reporting from Mucho Macho Man's first crop. He was purchased by Blinkers On Racing Stable.

Hip #67 is the second six-figure yearling for his sire this month after a $140,000 colt at the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Preferred auction on August 13.

Aside from his dramatic victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic over champions Will Take Charge and Declaration of War, Mucho Macho Man won several other stakes including the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes. As a sophomore the hickory colt won the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes and competed in all three Triple Crown races, placing in the Kentucky Derby, all before his June 15 third birthday.
