05.20.2020 -

Silent Name's Summer Sunday was crowned a Sovereign Awards champion on May 19 in an abbreviated ceremony streamed on woodbine.com.

Anne and William Scott's Silent Name filly garnered 152 votes to take home the champion female sprinter trophy. Trained by Stuart Simon, she won three of her six 2019 starts including the Royal North Stakes (G2) and the Hendrie S. (G3). The now 5-year-old was bred in Ontario by Trinity West Stables out of the Millennium Allstar mare Dancing Allstar.

Summer Sunday was one of two 2019 Grade 2 winners for Silent Name along with the Stronach Stables homebred Silent Poet, who was a finalist in the male sprinter category. Silent Poet authored a new Woodbine course record when his captured the 7-furlong Play the King S. (G2) in late August. Two-time champion sire Silent Name is the leading sire in Canada by lifetime graded stakes winners and was represented by 11 total blacktype horses last season.

Adena Springs Kentucky's Ghostzapper too was represented by a pair of 2019 Sovereign Awards finalists in Lift Up (Older Main Track Female) and Stronach Stables Holy Helena (Female Grass Horse), who already has a Sovereign Award on her resume (2017 3YO Filly). Stronach Stables was nominated for a 10th Outstanding Owner trophy as well with the award going to the famed Sam-Son Farm.
