Giant Gizmo and Sligo Bay Sovereign Award Finalists
The finalists for 2016 Sovereign Awards were announced on January 24 and the Adena Springs North stallions Giant Gizmo and Sligo Bay were well represented.

Giant Gizmo's Amis Gizmo (pictured) is the favorite for Three-Year-Old Male honors. The Ivan Dalos homebred was a dominant winner of the Prince of Wales Stakes, rolling by 5 3/4 lengths in Canadian Classic. He also scored in the Plate Trial Stakes and Grade 3 Ontario Derby, galloping home by six lengths while establishing the new nine-furlong standard on the Woodbine main track. This is the second Sovereign Award nomination for Amis Gizmo. He finished second in the voting for champion Two-Year-Old male despite an unbeaten 2015 juvenile campaign.
Sligo Bay is the sire of two of the past three Woodbine Oaks winners, Neshama and Lexie Lou, both of whom are 2016 Sovereign Award finalists.

On the strength of her '16 Oaks victory, Neshama is a nominee for champion Three-Year-Old Filly. Finishing immediately behind her in the Oaks were fellow finalists Gamble's Ghost (by Ghostzapper) and Caren.

Lexie Lou is no stranger to Sovereign Award accolades having won Horse of the Year, Three-Year-Old Filly and Turf Female titles in 2014. She is favored for another trophy in the latter category. The Gary Barber-owned mare was victorious is a pair of 2016 Grade 2 events, the Nassau Stakes and the Dance Smartly Stakes in which she sprinted to a wire-to-wire score. She is the only finalist in her category with multiple graded wins in 2016.

Lexie Lou finished her career with 10 victories in 24 starts and over $1.7 million in earnings. She was sold for $1 million at the Keeneland November sale.

The Sovereign Awards ceremony will take place on April 13 at Palais Royale in Toronto.
