$1 Million Filly Among Ghostzapper's Keeneland September Book 1 Standouts

09.13.2018 -

Hip #740, a filly by Ghostzapper, brought $1,025,000 during Session 3 of the Keeneland September Yearling sale, one of several high-priced Book 1 yearlings by the Adena Springs stallion.

The beautiful bay is a full sister to La Troienne S. winner Molly Morgan, one of Ghostzapper's 11 Grade 1 winners. She was purchased by Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Farm, who bred and sold Molly Morgan's $1.8 million Curlin son earlier in the sale.

"We just went and visited her sister today, looked at her and came back and looked at this filly and they're like Irish twins," said Banke, who paid $1.35 million for Molly Morgan at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Sale.

Consignor Petter O'Callaghan (Woods Edge Farm) also had high praise for the filly who was originally purchased for $335,000 at last year's Keeneland November auction.

"She was a great filly," O'Callaghan said. "It was a very unique package - she's by an unbelievable sire...who is now proving to be an unbelievable broodmare sire. She's a great physical specimen with a proven pedigree. We were just lucky to have the right people on her."

Horse of the Year Ghostzapper is the broodmare sire of 14 blacktype winners, a sterling 8% from starters, including none other than this year's Triple Crown hero Justify.

The following day, renowned bloodstock agent Steve Young signed for a $850,000 Ghostzapper filly from the Denal Stud consignment. Offered as Hip #949, the striking bay is a full sister to graded winner Gloryzapper and to the Macho Uno multiple stakes-placed runner Banree.

Ghostzapper is also the sire of a $600,000 Keeneland September colt purchased during Session 2 by Peter Brant's White Birch Farm.
