Ghostzapper's Dominga Best In Allen LaCombe Memorial S.

03.08.2020 -

Following a thrilling stretch run, Don Alberto Stable’s Dominga prevailed late to take the $75,000 Allen Lacombe Memorial Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths as the 5-2 post time favorite in a race restricted to 3-year-old fillies. Spurting clear of Wexx late in the stretch, Dominga stopped the clock in 1:41.54 about one mile over a firm turf course at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. It was a length further back to Embossed in third.

The 3-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper now owns a career record of 5-3-1-0 with earnings of $136,220.  It was meet-topping eighth stakes win of the meet for both jockey Shaun Bridgmohan and trainer Brad Cox.

Bred by her owner Don Alberto Stable, Dominga handled first-level allowance company with ease in her second try against winners on December 5. She followed up with a runner-up performance behind the odds-on favorite Alms, who remained perfect from four starts, in the Shantel Lanerie Memorial. Dominga closed with a rush in that stakes debut to finish 2 ¼ lengths clear of the third place finisher.

“She’s such a big filly with a huge stride,” Bridgmohan said. “I ride her accordingly and just try to keep her in the clear. She needs some room to run and we used that big long stride effectively to get the job done.”

“Like Shaun (Bridgmohan) said, you have to ride her accordingly,” Cox said. “She can kind of lose touch with the race. She kind of just loafs along and comes running late. He rode her really well and it’s good to get the win.”

Dominga is out of the Dynaformer daughter Dynarama and is Ghostzapper's 5th blacktype winner from 23 starters out of Dynaformer dams.

Earlier in the afternoon at Aqueduct, Ghostzapper's Happy Farm just missed earning his second graded stakes victory, falling a neck short in the Tom Fool S. (G3). Winner of the Fall Highweight (G3) in early December, the 6-year-old gelding has now earned $462,888.
