Ghostzapper Yearlings Popular at Keeneland: $625,000, $425,000, etc.

09.12.2017 -

Hip #321, a colt by Ghostzapper, commanded a final bid of $625,000 during day two of the annual Keeneland September Yearling sale. Three others Ghostzapper yearlings sold through the first two days of the sale, all for over $300,000.

The $625,000 hip is a full brother to Ghostzapper's Breeders' Cup and Eclipse Champion Judy the Beauty. Shadwell Estate purchased the colt.

"He's a royally bred colt, that fella," consignor Peter O'Callaghan (Woods Edge Farm) said after the sale.

Other prominent owners were keen to buy in on Ghostzapper at North America's most important yearling auction. Rick Porter, who's raced such standouts as Havre de Grace and Songbird in the colors of his Fox Hill Farm, was winning bidder on a $425,000 colt during the sale's first session. On day two, Shortleaf Stable purchased a $375,000 colt and G. Watts Humphrey went to $310,000 to secure a Ghostzapper filly.

Through the first two days of the sale Ghostzapper's average is a stout $433,750 for yearlings bred on a stud fee of $60,000.
