First Winner for Champion Hunters Bay

10.19.2017 -

Hunters Bay, a Champion multiple graded stakes-winner and grade 1-placed son of Ghostzapper, got his first winner Oct. 19 when Bay of Cats broke her maiden in a game 5 1/2 furlong race at Delaware Park.

The filly, raced by Derek Brown and trained by Mary Eppler, got her first win in her second start. Though tracking near the back of the six-horse field early, she ran down The Bay Express in deep stretch to win by a neck.

Dr. Tom Bowman's Roland Farm and Adena Springs bred Bay of Cats in Maryland. The filly is the first foal out of the Dance With Ravens daughter Cat Bird, who is a half sister to black-type stakes winner Halo Cat and black-type placed winner Joyce Ann.

Hunters Bay, bred by Frank Stronach's Adena Springs and raced by Stronach, won six races and finished second four times out of 14 starts. In 2012 championship season, he won the Eclipse Stakes (G3) and Dominion Day Stakes (G3) at Woodbine Race Course and finished second to Wise Dan in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1T). He retired with $611,091 in earnings and now stands at Adena Springs North.
