Adena Springs Sells $500,000 American Pharoah Filly at Keenelend November

11.07.2017 -

Hip 82, an Adena Spring-bred chestnut filly from the first crop of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, out of multiple grade 1 winner Life At Ten, sold to Blue Sky Stable for $500,000 at the Keeneland November sale Nov. 7. The partnership was organized by Brian Graves, Mike McMahon, and Jamie Hill.

"We were hoping it was going to be a little bit less, but we thought it was fair," Graves said.

The filly was offered by Adena Springs, who bred her in Ontario, and was sold immediately after her grade 1-winning dam went through the ring for $550,000. Life At Ten was purchased by SF Bloodstock, also from the Adena Springs consignment.

"We intend to re-sell her next year," said Graves. "We just thought she was a beautiful, balanced filly, and maybe one of the best in the sale. American Pharoahs have been selling well. She's out of a grade 1 winner and she's all class, so we'll take a shot."

Of American Pharoah's first crop, Graves added, "The sky's the limit. We just bought something by a Triple Crown winner out of a grade 1 winner. You can't beat that."

Life at Ten was among several

Other weanlings bred, raised and sold by Adena Springs at Keeneland November include Hip 172, a $130,000 Awesome Again colt out stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Topic. Adena Springs also sold Topic for $525,000 to Spendthrift Farm. The highest-selling mare of the Adena consignment is the Congrats daughter Top Decile, who was secured by Shadai Farm for $950,000.
