$575,000 Mucho Macho Man Colt at OBS March

03.13.2018 -

Hip #282, a colt from the first crop by Breeders' Cup Classic hero Mucho Macho Man, was hammered down for $575,000 at the OBS March Two-Year-Old in Training sale. The price was the third-highest paid for a colt and the highest bid for any progeny by a first year sire during the March 13 opening session.

Out of the Cherokee Run mare Dusty Rose, the speedy bay was consigned by Richardson Bloodstock. During the March 9 breeze show he zipped a quarter mile in :20.4. Only seven juveniles posted faster breezes at that distance during the three OBS March breeze sessions. He will race in the colors of Larry Best's OXO Equine, LLC.

Best also purchased a big-ticket Pioneerof the Nile colt and had this to say about the newest additions to his stable:

"I'm actually pretty happy with the two that I bought. They're two nice colts, so I'm satisfied. It was a good day... They both had good breezes, and coincidentally both are May foals, so they've got some big growth ahead of them. If they're good now, hopefully they'll just get better."

Hip #282 also represents a successful pinhook for Texas-based Richardson Bloodstock. At last year's Keeneland September auction the father and son team made the colt the highest-priced Mucho Macho Man yearling by signing the $170,000 ticket.

"...he was a nice individual and we really wanted him," Lane Richardson of Richardson Bloodstock told The Blood-Horse. "We thought he was well-balanced, and my dad and I both liked him. He proved himself on the racetrack (breezing a quarter-mile in :20 4/5)."

Hip #282 wasn't the only popular Mucho Macho Man juvenile at OBS March. Agent Ben McElroy purchased a filly out of Stakes-placed Raucous Lady for $260,000 on Day 2 of the sale.
